IPC Topic - Water

In Geography,  we’ll be learning:

Knowledge:

      To know about the main physical and human features and environmental issues in particular localities.

      To know about similarities and differences between particular localities.

      To know how people affect the environment.

Skills :

      To be able to collect and record evidence to answer geographical questions.

      To be able to use appropriate geographical vocabulary to describe and interpret their surroundings.

Understand:

      To understand how and why people seek to manage and sustain their environment.

 

In International, we will be learning:

Knowledge:

      To know about the key features related to the lives of people in their home country and where appropriate, their parents’ home countries

   Skills:

      To be able to identify ways in which people work together for mutual benefit

 

 

 

 

In Society, we’ll be learning:

Knowledge:

      To know that the study of society is concerned with learning about living as members of groups

Understand:

      To understand their own responsibility concerning water use in the groups to which they belong

 

In Science, we’ll be learning:

Knowledge:

      To know about the nature, functions and effects of micro-organisms.

      To know that matter is made up of particles.

   Skills:

      To be able to conduct scientific investigations choosing an appropriate way to investigate a scientific issue.

Literacy Targets for Term 3.2

Literacy

In Literacy we will be adapting the learning outcomes from the Key Stage 2 English Literacy Curriculum which we link to the IPC where appropriate for bigger and better learning. For the next few weeks we will be focusing on:

  • Science Fiction stories in Narrative writing

  • Non-chronological reports in non narrative writing


Knowledge:

  • To know the structure of a non-chronological report

  • To know the language features of a non-chronological report text

  • To know the correct spelling of high frequency words and common spelling patterns

  • To know how to punctuate sentences accurately, including the use of commas

  • To know the features of a science-fiction text

Skills:

  • To be able to establish a convincing, individual voice or point of view and mostly sustain this.

  • To be able to construct paragraphs that support meaning and purpose.

  • To be able to demonstrate a range of techniques to signal overall direction of the text for the reader, precisely chosen adverbials, deliberate repetition, consistent and correct choice of tense sustained

  • To be able to re-draft fully a piece of written work to make improvements

  • To be able to write sentences which have more than one sub-clause to establish meaning.

  • To be able to consistently use a full range of accurate punctuation in a variety of sentence structures.

  • To be able to use colons, semi-colons and dashes to indicate independent clauses, choosing which to use for non-chronological reports and creative writing

  • To be able to proof-read to check for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation.

  • To be able to show a secure grasp of the non-chronological reports genre through writing that is well constructed.

  • To be able to link ideas across paragraphs using cohesive devices such as repeating a word or ellipses

  • To be able to use references to the start of the story to signal a change at the end of the story.

  • To be able to write in both formal and informal styles changing grammar and vocabulary as appropriate

  • To be able to use passive verbs to affect the presentation of information in a sentence

  • To be able to  recognise how changing the word choice can change the meaning of the writing and write concisely

  • To be able to use vocabulary that is varied, imaginative and appropriate, including the use of technical and specific words

  • To be able to vary the pace and develop the viewpoint through the use of direct and reported speech, portrayal of action and selection of detail


                      

Understanding:

  • Experiment with different narrative form and styles to write their own stories

  • Adapt non-narrative forms and styles to write non-chronological reports

  • Create multi-layered texts


Maths Targets

         To know the sum of angles in a triangle, on a straight line and around a point

      To know the parts of a circle

      To know what factors are

      To know what multiples are

      To know what prime numbers are

      To know the names of common 2-D and 3-D Shapes

      To know the terms mean, median, mode and range

      To know the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages

      

       Skills:

      To be able to work out missing angles in triangles, on a straight line and around a point

      To be able to calculate the areas of triangles and parallelograms

      To be able to solve problems including long multiplication and long division

      To be able to use negative numbers in context

      To be able to add, subtract, divide and multiply fractions

      To be able to interpret and construct pie charts

      To be able to convert different units of measure.
