Conceptual Understanding of Division

In Maths we solved a word problem in our team.

Jen has 20 lollipops. She wants to share the lollipops into 4 bags, with the same number in each bag. How many lollies are there in each bag?

We used our thinking to determine if the problem was addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.
Then we wrote the problem as a number sentence.

We drew a picture of what the problem looked like to make our thinking visible.

Then we showed our understanding of division in another way making use of materials in our class.

We focus, we reflect, we adapt and we learn.

We made sure that we used PIES

Positive Interdependence: every team member gets a job.
Individual accountability: you are responsible for your part.
Equal participation: every team member does an equal amount.
Simultaneous interaction: every team member is active at the same time.

We communicated our ideas taking turns.
We listened to each other.
We coached each other.
We celebrated together!
