It was wonderful to see so many children bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning, ready to commence the final term of learning in P2!

We started with a bang and launched straight into our new Literacy, Maths and IPC topics.

In Literacy this week:

Comic Books and Superheroes.

The children will learn to identify the parts of a comic strips, exploring the speech and though bubbles, use of pictures and onomatopoeias (CRASH!). They will write dialogue using speech bubbles and design their own superhero and bad guy.


Spelling Rule:
In one syllable words, after a short vowel (a, e, i, o, u) the letters l, f, s and z are written as a double. The grapheme ck is used.

scoff, cliff, bell, loss, fizz, duck, flick

To make the word a plural simply add s, unless the word ends in ss or zz, then add es.

scoffs, cliffs, bells, losses, fizzes, ducks, flicks.

In Maths this week:

Fractions

The children will learn to identify, name and create fractions of 1/4, 1/2 and 1 in standard shapes and in everyday settings.

We will ask the big question - What does it mean to have equal parts?

We will bed using the vocabulary:

Whole = 1
Half = 1/2
Quarter = 1/4
parts
equal
less
more

In IPC this week:

We start with our Entry Point tomorrow looking at Forces.
This week the Children will continue developing their understanding of "What Makes a Good Scientist?"

They will also discover push and pull forces and think reflectively on how we use our muscles when pushing or pulling things.

Knowledge:

  • Identify a push and a pull force

Skill:

  • To be able pose scientific questions

  • To be able to identify ways of finding out about scientific issues

  • To be able to conduct simple investigations with help
