Week Beginning May 16th

This week the children will be focusing on Formal and Informal clothing through outfits for Parties and wedding compared to outfits for playing outside and coming to school. The Personal Quality focus to help the children this week will be Respect. In P1 Respect is; learning to look after things and people around me with my teacher's help, sometimes being able to look after things and people around me by myself or always being able to look after things and people around me.


These are four main learning strands that we are focusing on this week;

Independence and Interdependence

1.14 taking others points of view

Communication

2.21 being creative and expressive through a variety of activities  

Exploring

3.13 explaining, listening to others, taking part in reflective discussion, planning and observing 

Healthy Living

4.6 coping with change


The children will be learning about;

* Clothing worn at Formal occasions and clothing worn for informal occasion

* Investigating what clothes are worn at; Weddings, Birthday Parties, 

* The stories of; Birthday parties, Cinderella, Town Mouse and Country Mouse and The Scarecrow Wedding. 

* Compare and contrast similarities and differences between formal and informal clothes

* Choosing materials for Formal and Informal clothes

* Designing formal and informal clothes

* Subtraction and Addition within 5, 8 and 10

* Writing short sentences with and without a writing frame

* Spelling, writing and reading CVC words, CCVC words, CVCC words and High Frequency words

* Measuring with non-standard units 

* O'clock and half past times 


Home learning links;

* Read the stories; 'Town Mouse and Country Mouse', 'Cinderella' or 'Scarecrow wedding'. Talk about the different clothes you wear to a party or a wedding. How are they different to your playing outside clothes and school clothes. Are there any other special clothes you know about it or special accessories e.g. necklace, hat, badge etc 

* Bring in a photo of you in Fancy clothes and everyday clothes to use as a classroom display.

* Swimming starts again on Monday 16th * 

* All white t-shirts for ICD should be sent in by Monday 16th May *  

* P1 Sports Day June 17th 08:45 - 09:30. All welcome to come and watch *

* P1 Swimming Gala June 21st in the afternoon. All welcome to come and watch *
