Week beginning March 14th

This week the children will be learning about patterns in literature and cultures around the world. This is a very exciting week for the children especially Friday when they open their museum. If any parents have a spare 5 minutes feel free to pop in at 3pm to see the Museum. 


The learning focus will be;

Independence and Interdependence
1.9 their ability to acquire new interests and skills 

Communicating
2.4 using repetitive sounds and words, aspects of language such as rhythm, rhyme and alliteration and to enjoy nonsense stories and rhymes  

Exploring
3.2 take responsibility for their own learning 

Healthy living
4.5 concentrating


The children will be learning about;
 - Patterns in books, rhymes/poems, silly sentences, individual words
 - Patterns in Cultures including; Ireland's - St Patricks Day; Russia -  Gzhel patterns; Australia -  dot art patterns. 
 - The children will be introduced to onomatopoeia and linking music to rhyme/rhythm to help explore literacy patterns. 
 - The children will be creating a classroom museum to show a special artifact from home and some of the cultural patterns they have made. This will be called 'Patterns around the world'.  
 

The book that will help the children's learning this week are;
 - Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson
 - Stick man by Julia Donaldson 
 - We're going on a lion hunt by David Axtell 
 - We're going on a bear hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury 


Home learning links;
 - make up a silly sentence using rhyming words e.g. The fat cat sat on the rat mat.  To to write your rhyming words and bring them in to show Mrs. Grayston. 
 - read a bed time story and try to find any patterns in the book; look carefully at the pictures to help, is it a rhyming book? does it have repetition? Does a character do something over and over again? 
 - practise talking about your special patterned artifact ready for the presentation on Friday.
