The 4 learning blocks in our 'Brilliant Bug Ball' unit are;
Block 1 - looking after minibeasts (May 15th - May 24th)
Block 2 - patterns shape, colours and numbers (May 25th - June 2nd)
Block 3 - minibeasts on the move (June 5th - June 16th)
Block 4 - preparing for the ball (June 19th - June 28th)
Reflection Week - (June 29th - July 7th)
These time scales are only approximate and could change depending on the ideas from the children throughout each learning block.

This week the children will finish Learning Block 2; Activity 5 - Bigger or Smaller and begin Learning Block 3; Activity 1 - spinning spiders and Activity 2 - Busy bees. All of the literacy and Math is linked with our unit however, there are also some stand alone learning activities to ensure full P1 curriculum coverage that cannot be linked to minibeasts.

Information Books that will help this weeks learning;

Our Big Question is How do bees make honey? This was a question one of the children asked a few weeks ago and I have been saving it for when we were learning about bees. The children will ask older children and teachers this question as a starting point. They will then spend time researching in groups using information books and documentary clips on the computer.  Hopefully, this as well as many focused learning activities will lead to the children being able to answer How do bees make honey?

Our Visible Thinking Tool this week will be 'See - Think - Wonder'. This is a tool that the children are familiar with. Describing and asking questions encourages more reflective thinking and in-depth discussions.

There will be many Personal Qualities used this week in our learning activities. Cooperation in P1 is learning alongside everyone, listening to everyone's ideas, letting everyone have a part to play in the learning and decision making. Enquiry in P1 is asking questions and using books to find out information.

Our learning activities this week include;
* Reading the 'Bad Tempered Ladybird'
* Retelling the Bad Tempered Ladybird using the times and animals he met
* Building a bee hive
* Designing a bee for the bee hive
* Making honey sandwiches and chocolate and bread stick spider webs
* Spider arts and crafts
