This week as part of our IEYC unit My Toy Shop we are exploring Old and New toys as well as playing and learning about Toys and Games around the world. 
Using International Mindedness (Our Personal Quality focus this week) will help the children build their knowledge of the different Home Countries of the children in our class as well as learning about games and toys that have been played in different countries around the world.

Learning Block 4: Old and New

BIG QUESTION: How can you tell if a toy is old or new?

This week we will:
- explore Old and New toys, looking at how we can tell if they are old or new by the materials they are made of
- play different games from the past and from different countries and cultures in PE
  • Hot potato
  • Kick the Can
  • Ampe (a game from Ghana)
  • Pitching Pennies
  • Anne-Maria Koekoek (a favourite game from The Netherlands)
- Observe and look at toys from our Host and Home countries

Learning Strands for Observation:
1.2b Diversity in people and communities (I know that children in my class come from different countries)
4.10b Exploring team games and associated rules (I can play different games and follow the rules)

MATHS:

The children will explore sorting and classifying this week.
They will:
- sort and classify Toys and games
- sort and compare groups of objects
- use the language of more/less to describe the groups of the objects

Learning Strands for Observation:
2.35b Identifying common properties in and between groups

LITERACY:

The children will develop describing vocabulary this week as they describe toys and games.
They will:
- write descriptions of toys
- talk about toys
- create a who am I? to guess toys
