We had a very busy week this week, enjoying moving forward to the next learning block in our IEYC unit: The Three Billy Goats Gruff!

We led the week with the big question, Were the Billy Goats nice? and ask more questions like, How did the troll feel at the end of the story? (HUNGRY was one response!) Next week we will continue our exploration of this story with the big question:

How can we change the story so that the characters show morality?

Through this question we will explore morality and what it means to make Good Choices.

We will also explore the story through music and using instruments and body percussion, craft a performance this well-loved traditional tale.

Next's Weeks Learning

Literacy Learning:

Continuing on our focus on building phonemic awareness and begin to manipulate sounds in words. We will challenge the children to substitute sounds within words (eg, changing the vowel in pan from /a/ to /i/ to make a new word pin) as well as deleting sounds in words (eg: what is the word bread without the /r/. Bed!)
We will also progress with our letter formation development, learning new shapes from our story "Casey the Caterpillar."

Maths Learning:

This week will be begin to explore addition to 5 and 10. We will use games and stories to help us gain an understanding of addition, and learn how to record addition in pictures, with different materials and how to write the matching number sentence. We have a BIG focus on number formation next week where the children will learn rhymes and songs and listen to funny stories to remember how to write numbers correctly.
