Week 12 is the start of our Changes Unit

posted 22 Nov 2015, 17:01 by Primary 1 Teacher

This week is very exciting with the start of a new IPC Unit 'Changes'. The children will be investigating and exploring changes around the local area, changes in themselves and changes that have happened recently.

Entry Point  - The children will be going on a nature walk around the school and pond to look at the changes in their local area. The pictures taken and understanding gained from this will help future learning tasks.

There will be a new role-play in the form of a Science Lab in the class this week. The children will be able to take on the role as a scientist and investigate and explore changes in nature and various other experiments throughout the Unit.

The children will be learning about their family back ground this week through a variety of fun learning activities.

The children will have a big focus on Adaptability, one of our IPC Personal Qualities. They will be exploring changes in their daily routines that require them to practice being adaptable; changes to time tabling, new peers, peers leaving, weather changes which brings changes in clothes etc.

These are four main learning strands that we are focusing on this week;

Independence and Interdependence

1.6 their family background

2.19 using the process of art and craft

3.13 explaining, listening to others, taking part in reflective discussion, planning and observing

Healthy Living

4.4 paying attention

We have a special request for parents this week to email us a photograph of your child as a baby. Growing up and changing will be a big focus for us over the next few weeks.

On top of this we will also be exploring extended families; grandparents, aunties, uncles, siblings etc. If you have any extended family photographs or photos of your child’s grandparents these would be greatly appreciated and really add to our learning over the next few weeks. Thank you for supporting our learning.
