Patterns Unit: Week beginning 9th March

posted 3 Mar 2016, 23:11 by Nursery Teacher 2   [ updated 3 Mar 2016, 23:11 ]

This week we have a special focus on number and shape patterns. We will try to copy a pattern that has already been started and we will also make up our own A/B patterns of numbers and shapes.

(An A/B pattern is a pattern of two elements: A/B/A/B/A/B, AA/BB/AA/BB).

We are having a weeks focus on Resilience. We need lots of resilience when making patterns. The children will practice having patience and not giving up even when we find the pattern difficult.

These are four main learning strands that we are focusing on this week;

Independence and Interdependence

1.7 respecting and interacting with people who are different to themselves

Communication

2.14 using mathematical symbols and concepts

Exploring

3.6 controlling their bodies

Healthy Living

4.4 paying attention

At home this week you can make your own A/B pattern using items in your kitchen like pasta, dried beans, lentils etc.
