This week we begin our new EY IPC Unit in Nursery/Pre-nursery which is Food!

The children are taking part in their Entry Point, where they will work as a team to plan and organise an
International Picnic. The personal quality we will focus on this week is communication
They will complete a knowledge harvest, sharing all of their knowledge about food
and what they would like to learn and investigate next through our Unit.
We also have an exciting unveiling of our new role-play centre which has transformed into a food hall!
The children will take responsibility in the design of our food hall and will communicate their ideas by creating
signs and posters. We will begin practicing taking on different roles as shop keeper, chef and waiter etc.

These are four main learning strands that we are focusing on this week;

Independence and Interdependence

. 1.14  taking another’s point of view

Communication
. 2.3  using language skills in a variety of contexts

Exploring
.        3.4  taking part in symbolic, pretend or dramatic play

Healthy Living
. 4.3 making choices

This week at home during lunch/dinner time try to ask your child questions to gauge their knowledge, skills and understanding about food.  See if your child can name all the food on their plate, eat using cutlery, describe how it tastes.
Here is a link to a food themed nursery rhyme that we are learning this week; Pat-a-cake Pat-a-cake
