Next week we continue our new EY IPC Unit in Nursery/Pre-nursery, which is Food!

The children will have a big focus on Enquiry, one of our IPC Personal Qualities. They will develop their investigation skills and learn how to gather information, classify foods and explain their findings.

The children will have the opportunity to explore and manipulate real foods in sensory rich experiences. They will practice skills in using a magnifying glass to observe and dissect seeded vegetables/ fruit in detail and express what they see.

We will experiment with potatoes to learn first hand how they change when heated, boiled and mashed.

These are four main learning strands that we are focusing on this week;

Independence and Interdependence

.       1.9  their ability to acquire new interests and skills

.       2.1  using gesture and expressive body movement for communication

.       3.14  identifying and using information from a range of sources

.       3.19  spatial representations such as maps, diagrams, photographs and drawings

We are exploring foods that contain seeds this week. If possible, combine some seeded food into their meals at home and provide them with opportunities to name the food and discuss how the seeds look, feel, smell and taste.

Here is a link to a food themed nursery rhyme that we will be learning; 5 Peas in a Pod
