Nxplorers: Developing Complex Thinking Skills

posted 27 Apr 2016, 13:52 by Neil Pettitt

Students have been taking part in this project since Monday and have been going on a great learning journey.

Yesterday students had the chance to role play some of the biological relationships existing here in Sakhalin, becoming part of the food chain and more complex food webs. This allowed them to see the importance of each part of these systems and how delicate the balance is to maintain them. We saw that even the smallest change in the ecosystem can have far reaching effects on the environment.

As we progress through ort Nxplorers project, Middle Years students along with our friends from Gymnasium 3 are considering the problems surrounding the declining salmon population in Sakhalin. The factors affecting this, and the possible solutions are both complex and far reaching. Through complex thinking tools, the students are looking to get a better idea of this complexity whilst developing the skills to perceive and analyse complex issues.

We are looking forward to seeing how the project progresses throughout the rest of the week and beyond.
